Burlington, VT - Skirack is excited to announce the acquisition of a large collection of cross country ski gear from the Adirondack Mountain Club’s (ADK) Cascade Welcome Center in Lake Placid, NY. The gear will be available for purchase at a discounted rate during Skirack’s 45th Annual Winter Swap, taking place January 17th and 18th.
The acquisition follows ADK’s announcement in October regarding the closure of the Cascade Welcome Center, a decision that will allow the organization to refocus its efforts on core programs, people, and places.
According to ADK’s press release:
“Moving forward, ADK will concentrate its resources on strengthening operations at the Heart Lake and Loj facilities and at Johns Brook Lodge. The organization will also focus on enhancing its core Stewardship, Education, and Advocacy programs while increasing engagement with chapters and members across the state. This renewed focus will ensure that ADK continues to thrive as a leader in protecting New York’s wild lands and waters for future generations.”
Skirack is deeply appreciative of the Adirondack Mountain Club’s work and is honored that ADK offered its cross country ski gear for purchase in support of its mission. The acquisition directly aligns with Skirack’s own mission to encourage outdoor activity, accessibility, and environmental stewardship.
In addition to the cross country ski gear from ADK, Skirack is introducing a new addition to the Winter Swap this year in response to popular demand: the acceptance of used winter outerwear.
Skirack expects 2026 to be its largest Winter Swap yet and is thrilled to celebrate 45 years of the event. Since 1981, the Winter Swap has helped keep quality outdoor gear out of basements, garages, and landfills - giving it a second life within the community and helping more people get outside.
