UPDATED 10/25/2024: Skirack is proud to announce a collaboration with local artist Max Hodgson, whose graphic artwork now adorns our building. Using the vibrant colors of orange, purple and yellow, Max’s mural captures the beauty of the Green Mountains and our passion for the outdoors. We are so thrilled to see a complete mural!
Max’s parents helped us develop this historic building as it currently stands. In the 1990s, we expanded the building from what is now the bike department across the old driveway into Minerva's, a bar and music venue. The project connected our original store with our current upper deck and Nordic/service floor. Max's father envisioned, found, and delivered the antique marble rock slab from a quarry in Barre, which is now sitting above “the pond.” Another local business, Gregory Supply, drove their forklift up Pine Street to unload the stone and install it. This project helped Skirack connect with a piece of history from our region.
By working with a local artist, we can help tell our story of Skirack’s passion and purpose: we love to help get our community outdoors. With this mural, signature events (such as Winter Swaps and Banff Mountain Film Festival), and other locally-focused initiatives, Skirack is taking an active approach to do our part in #BetteringBurlington. Vermont has a culture of care - by living here, there is a commitment to look after your neighbor and support each other in times of need.
Burlington faces a multitude of challenges and needs Vermonters’ support more than ever, especially this holiday season. Skirack is proud to employ folks who are ingrained in the outdoors and who have a passion for protecting the environment we live in.
Stop by to see Max’s work of art on Skirack’s building on the corner of Pine and Main Street, in Burlington, Vermont! Please consider coming in to support us this fall season. Every purchase is vital for us to stay in business - your support matters.
