In partnership with Fischer and Skirack, we present Tour De Hollenbach - Stops 8 through 15: Blueberry Lake Cross Country, Ole’s Cross Country Center, Mountain Top Inn & Resort, Mountain Meadows, Wild Wings Ski Touring Center, Viking Nordic Center, Stratton Mountain Nordic Center, and Prospect Mountain Ski Area.

For us it is an underutilized perk that we’re going to try to maximize this winter, and it will motivate us to get out for some local adventuring.

In partnership with Fischer and Skirack, we present Tour De Hollenbach: Stops 1 through 7: Sleepy Hollow Inn, Camel’s Hump Nordic, Memphremagog Trails, Jay Peak Resort, Catamount Outdoor Family Center, Trapp Family Lodge and Rikert Nordic Center.

For the past 37 years, Patagonia has been funding grassroot environmental organizations in an effort to, as their mission reads, “to Save our Home Planet.” Skirack and Patagonia Burlington have been fortunate to be a part of this effort through grant support to the Intervale Center. In recent years, the grant has been given to the Intervale Center’s Conservation Nursery, whose focus is to raise and plant tens of thousands of native trees every year to support and improve water quality in Vermont. This has also been put forward to sequester carbon, fight erosion and build a better wildlife habitat.

This year, we are happy to announce that through Patagonia’s Action Works Grant Program, Skirack and Patagonia Burlington have been able to once again show our support with a grant of $15,000 to the Intervale Center: to support not just the continuation of critical conservation projects through the nursery, but to expand into supporting the organization’s broad range of conservation and agriculture projects aimed to strengthen community food systems. The grant is providing core resources to maintain the best services they can to their farmers, improve land and water quality, and bring more people into the good food movement.

Last holiday season, Patagonia continued making waves with their “Buy Less, Demand More.” holiday campaign. Patagonia Burlington's Indiana Peters explains: "Buy Less, Demand More." calls for consumers to purchase sustainable, multi-functional, and enduring products with the broad goal of achieving corporate accountability in the industry and of doing work to manage environmental impact.

This forward thinking holiday campaign created a spark for me. I began a deep dive into past purchases I’ve made and concluded that my shopping habits could be revamped. I thought about many impulse purchases I’ve made for something I really didn’t need, the mistakes I’ve made in the past with gift giving (“it’s the thought that counts!”), how I cared for current items I owned, and then what happens when they are no longer usable.

The Popularity of Cross Country Skiing + Backcountry Snowsports

Last winter, the outdoor community saw an unprecedented surge in winter outdoor activities. Between travel and ski resort restrictions, more people discovered or rediscovered snowsports as a way to get out of the house, get back into shape, or socialize while enjoying the outdoors.

As a direct result of this popularity, winter gear has been in demand like never before. Last winter, touring and backcountry cross country skis and equipment sold out, with few or no options for our buyers to reorder. We also saw an uptick for backcountry gear and snowshoes. Indoor bike trainers also increased in popularity as people preferred the flexibility of riding at home with their friends virtually. More recently, running shoes and clothing have seen supply issues due to production and shipping delays.

If this all sounds familiar, it should. We’re still experiencing the same demand and supply issues with finding a bike.
