Skirack Hosts RunVermont's Junior Milers for Their Kickoff Event

For 14 years, RunVermont has offered Junior Milers, a 12 week training program, for youth age 11 – 18 to participate in the relay portion of the People's United Bank Vermont City Marathon. RunVermont partners with local youth organizations to encourage and facilitate youth to train and run the 5-person or 2-person relay.

With the help of experienced volunteer coaches and local partners, RunVermont has created an experience for hundreds of youth and demonstrated healthy alternatives to the many obstacles that our children face today. During the program participants learn about running and related topics such as nutrition, sports psychology, the musculoskeletal system, pedestrian safety and internet safety.

Skirack is a proud host of the Junior Milers kickoff event every year - this year the event was on March 7th, 2018. At this event, we are fortunate to provide and fit running shoes to the Junior Milers in with conjunction with RunVermont and our shoe partners.

Skirack Brings Demo Fat Tire and Gravel Bikes to Wintervale

Demo fat tire and gravel bikes were a big hit at this year's Wintervale  on March 4th, hosted by the Intervale Center in Burlington, Vermont. The lack of snow, was made up for in lots of biking, food, and fun.

Also thanks to Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront and Winooski Valley Park District for joining in the fun!

"As an experienced Mountainbiker I was surprised about the extra grip that the fatbike offered on snow and especially ice! It has the potential to extend my biking season significantly. Thanks to Skirack for a fun experience!" Pablo N.

2018 Craftsbury Marathon Preview

2018 Craftsbury Marathon Preview

Do not let what you see outside your window deceive you!

Stephen Wright and I previewed the published Craftsbury Marathon Course today and found it to be exceptional!  The conditions were far better than anticipated in Craftsbury.

As we made our way to the venue, we started to hit snow in Morrisville.  One thing to note is that North Wolcott Road is closed due to a washout, but there are plenty of alternative routes.  Plan accordingly.  When we arrived at Craftsbury, we found over an inch of new snow, and that the rain and warm-up did not have a devastating effect on the snowpack.  It still looks like mid-winter in Craftsbury, perhaps not to their standards, but relative to anywhere else there is a lot of snow.  It should be noted that they were not trucking snow, a measure of their confidence in the course.  My take is that they are letting things dry out a little before working the snow.  No questions here, they are the gold standard of snow expertise, and while what we saw was fantastic today, after a couple more days of Craftsbury Magic, we will be in awe of what we find Saturday morning and singing praises at a well-deserved lunch!

Banff Mountain Film Festival: "Frozen Road" to Screen in Burlington, Vermont

The Frozen Road chronicles part of Ben Page's round-the-world bikepacking trip, where he takes on a chilling winter trip through the Canadian Arctic.

Ben Page sought an adventure of perfect solitude in the Canadian Arctic. Yet the harsh truths of travelling in such a formidable environment were a long way from the romanticisms of a Jack London book.

Can you imagine skiing up (and down) 2.5 Million human-powered vertical feet in just one year? How much is 2.5 million vertical feet? Just think - you would have to ski up (and down) Everest 208 times in one year to reach 2.5 million vertical feet.

2.5 Million chronicles UVM graduate and former Outing Club member, Aaron Rice as he attempts to ski 2.5 million, human-powered, vertical feet in the backcountry and set a new world record.
